Integrated IYCF and Baal Vita Community Promotion Program( Program years 2016-2017)

Although the with the support of agencies Integrated IYCF and Baal Vita Community Promotion Program is currently being implemented as a regular government programme more than 20 districts With the support of partner agencies and distict health offices SDPC has initiated social mobilization activities have been implemented in Achham and Kapilvastu districts to improve overall nutritional status of children of aged 6 to 23 months and coverage and compliance of Baal Vita. Social Mobilizers were mobilized in both the districts to support the District Coordinators. The primary focus of Social Mobilizers (SMs) was towards increasing the awareness level regarding IYCF Practices of the mothers of children aged 6 to 23 months so as to increase Baal vita coverage and compliance among target age group of the children 6 to 23 months.

To understand the Knowledge and practice of Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) followed by coverage and compliance of the Multiple micronutrient supplementation achieve the given target intensive social mobilization, Food demonstration, followed by cover and compliance were also recorded. During this intervention a total of 800 mothers were interviewed and more than 1000 children aged 6-23 months were tracked

Internal monitoring data shows high Coverage and Compliance of Baal Vita in both the program districts. It is due to intensive counseling and food demonstration effects to the households. IYCF knowledge and practices of mothers have been improved which has contributed in the coverage and compliance and overall nutritional status. However, there is still 21% rejection of feeding Baal Vita due to negative perceptions, which needs to be addressed gradually through BCC and Social Mobilization activities.
