Infant and Young Child Feeding Counseling - Refresher Training

Malnutrition still continues to be the most serious health problem and a major contributor to maternal and child mortality. SDPC with more than eight years of experience was entrusted to implement a nutrition-focused IYCF counseling capacity building program in Jajarkot funded by the Government of Nepal.

In the past few years, Nepal has been successful in reducing the maternal and morbidity caused by nutritional deficiencies among women and children. However, the progress is not up to the mark. In response to the problem caused by child malnutrition, the government of Nepal attempts to implement nutrition interventions to combat it. As a part of government interventions, SDPC implemented the IYCF training in three tiers i.e. central, district and community level to improve the nutritional status of under five children. The major objective of the programme was to increase knowledge and skills on Infant and Young Child Feeding at Jajarkot which will ultimately result in decreasing the child malnutrition. A community based IYCF training and promotion package was designed and implemented for a period of two months from May to June, 2014.
